Security Tips

Here are some great resources to use at home, in the classroom or for your personal safety.

Password Tips

  • Do
  • Change your password often.
  • Create a complex password. Include at least 1 capital letter, 1 number, 1 special character, minimum 8 characters long.
  • Use a password keeper (like KeePass) instead of writing it down.

  • Don't
  • Give your password out to anyone.
  • Save your passwords in your web browser, especially for online banking.
  • Write your password and user ID on the same sheet of paper
  • Tape your password under your keyboard, leave it in your desk drawer or leave it in a visible area
  • Make an easily guessable password. i.e. if you like the color yellow and your office or room is all yellow, then do not have any part of the word yellow in your password.
  • Use the same password for all accounts. If someone figures out your password, then they could potentially figure out your user ID and login to you bank account.
